Published January 19, 2009 at 9 p.m.
Shane McConkey: The former University of Colorado student and ex-pizza deliveryman in Boulder is known for combining freeskiing and BASE jumping. Also designed reverse sidecut powder skis. Hopes to popularize a new genre: ski-BASE jumping in a wingsuit. McConkey and fellow CU students Kent Kreitler and Chris Davenport were pioneers in the freeskiing movement of the early 1990s.
Jesse Hall: Niwot native is on the cutting edge of ski-BASE jumping. Took part in the first urban ski-BASE jumps off a casino in Reno. Why does he do it? "To keep pushing the edge," he said on GoFastSports.com. Mentor is ski-BASE great Max Kuszaj. "We're partners in crime," Kuszaj said.
Seth Morrison: The Battle Mountain High School (Vail) graduate was featured in Steep, a feature- length documentary tracing the roots of big mountain skiing. Survived helicopter crash and avalanches in his long career. "You never know what can happen out there," he said on TetonGravity.com. "Still, I keep going back."
