PHILADELPHIA Because of their success on the court and in the accounting department, the Nuggets likely will be impartial observers in advance of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
“I don’t think anything’s on the radar or even has a chance of happening,” coach George Karl said after the team’s morning shootaround Wednesday, “but things have a tendency of coming together late, and we’ll listen.”
The Nuggets added Eduardo Najera at the trade deadline in 2005 and acquired Ruben Patterson and Reggie Evans at the deadline in 2006.
“We’ve made some really good moves at the trade deadline that has helped us be a playoff team and to be a good team the second half of the season,” Karl said. “I’m not sure that’s the need right now.”
The Nuggets, currently the No. 2 seed in the West, are in position to stay under the NBA luxury tax and get home court in the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 1988.
Plus, they have few assets they are willing to give up in a trade. In short, all signs point to a playoff push with the current roster.
“Around the team we haven’t been really talking about trades, which is a good thing,” forward Carmelo Anthony said. “If something were to happen, let it happen.
“Last year was different than this year. People was almost expecting us to make a move last year, and we didn’t, so it was kind of like a disappointment.”
The Nuggets play the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night before closing their trip in Chicago on Friday and in Milwaukee on Sunday.
