All-Colorado gymnastics: Martinez makes most of first season

Published November 19, 2008 at 7:59 p.m.

* Doherty's Brittnee Martinez, the Rocky's All-Colorado gymnast of the year, competed in high school in only her senior year. Martinez, previously a club-only gymnast, came through, though, to end the three-year reign of Loveland's Hannah Bower to win the Class 5A all-around title by two-tenths of a point.

"This year is topping on my gymnastics cake," Martinez said. "Looking back, I would have liked to have competed my entire high school career."

The coach of the year is Monnya Silver of Evergreen, who led the Cougars to the school's first Class 4A gymnastics title.

Of note, Bower is an All-Colorado honoree for the fourth year, as is Green Mountain's Kelly Stone, who led the Rams to their second 5A state title. Pueblo Central's Tera Sisson and Thompson Valley's Gentry Knaub are All-Colorado for a third season.
