Man charged in fraud case

Published November 5, 2008 at 12:05 a.m.

Boulder County sheriff's investigators announced Tuesday that Lawrence J. Abrams, 46, a contractor from Superior, had been charged with theft and defrauding an elderly woman. He surrendered to Loveland police Oct. 6.

The crime originated with a complaint received in September by the Consumer Affairs Division of the Boulder district attorney's office. Abrams allegedly defrauded a woman of more than $200,000 during the course of three years, persuading her to loan him money, which he failed to repay.

Sheriff's detectives are now investigating other transactions by Abrams and are concerned that there may be other victims.
