MacMaster gains top honor

* Casey MacMaster becomes the second consecutive player from Rocky Mountain to be selected the player of the year in boys tennis, after 2007 honoree Will Vasos.

MacMaster won the Class 5A No. 1 singles title by beating Loveland junior Alex Clinkenbeard, whose only four losses were against MacMaster.

MacMaster, a junior who finished 26-0 this season, earned honorable mention all-state honor last season when he finished runner-up at No. 2 singles. He was the No. 3 singles champion as a sophomore.

The coach of the year is Kent Denver's Randy Ross, who led the Sun Devils to their fourth state title. He has been at Kent Denver the past 13 years.

There are four repeat selections from the 2007 All-Colorado team: Zach Chernow, Joel Lowinger, Connor Macey and Taylor Sargent, all from Cherry Creek. It was Macey's third selection after helping the Bruins win their 35th title in 38 years.
