Rocky fashion editor Lesley Kennedy is in New York for Fashion Week. Look for more of her report on Thursday in Spotlight.
Super Tuesday was supersized in New York:
Hillary Clinton made appearances as voters hit the polls in her home state.
Giants fans went wild, marching down Broadway in a ticker tape parade as they celebrated their team's Super Bowl win.
And supermodels strutted their stuff on runways as more than a dozen designers presented their fall collections to thousands of journalists, buyers and stylists at Fashion Week.
The fashion shows wrap up Friday with heavy-hitters Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Sean John and Marc Jacobs rounding out the week. Today's shows featured everything from classic elegance to sporty separates to all-American denim.
Here's a look.
Badgley Mischka: If you lead the luxe life, you're likely doing it clad in looks from this designing duo. Want to add a little razzle to the hum-drum "ladies who lunch" look? Reach for a cherry red leather short-sleeved skirted suit. Off to an elegant black tie affair? Dazzle in a perfect two-tone gown: black sequins on top and a long purple skirt on bottom.
Spotted: Ana Ortiz, Eliza Dushku, Jaime King
Monique L'uillier: Known for her exquisite bridal collection, this designer has expanded nicely into the red carpet and evening wear arena. Knee-length, straight and shiny cocktail dresses were favorites.
Spotted: Sophia Bush, Becki Newton, Amy Smart, Brittany Murphy
Cynthia Steffe: Hit the elliptical trainer this summer, because Steffe's looks require great gams for fall. Mini-dresses in houndstooth, floral prints and shimmery blacks were all part of the collection.
Diesel: Skinny denim, dark denim, white denim. Plus lots of funky oversized sweaters, unstructured jackets and generally cool styles. Perfect for the casual dresser who wants to inject a little edginess into any outfit.
Spotted: M.I.A., Brittany Murphy
Monday's Fashion Week highlights
Powerful magazine editors! Super skinny models! Hot fall fashions! Tyra Banks!
It's fashion week time again in the Big Apple and nearly 100 of America's top designers are giving the media, buyers and the glitterati a peek of fall styles.
Things kicked off Feb. 1. The big week finishes on Friday, with Sean John and Marc Jacobs — the hottest tickets in town — closing the event.
Monday's lineup included Peter Som, Carolina Herrera, R. Scott French, Jill Stuart and Betsey Johnson. Here's a quick look at what we saw.
Peter Som: Always beautiful, Som's latest collection was another stunner, complete with luscious flannel plaid coats, shimmery tweed jackets and organza and tulle cocktail dresses.
Spotted: Mandy Moore and Friday Night Lights Minka Kelly.
Carolina Herrera: Had we been able to see more than the models from the shoulders up, we would have been happy to report on Herrera's normally stellar presentation. But all we saw were giant feathers stuck in tweed caps. Perhaps the 3 Musketeers will be a major trend for fall.
R. Scott French: Menswear is looking cool and collegiate for fall. French showed tweed jackets with elbow patches that looked at once hip and professorial.
Spotted: Nikki Taylor and Tyson Beckford supporting male models from their reality show Make Me A Supermodel.
Jill Stuart: If the female cast members of Gossip Girl were sitting in the front row, they'd be sure to snap up all of this collection. Schoolgirl blazers, flirty cocktail dresses, little leather gloves. Perfect for the teen growing up on the Upper East Side.
Spotted: Tyra Banks surrounded by a bank of paparazzi.
Betsey Johnson: You always know you're going to leave this show with a smile. The season's theme: Beat Chicks. Boys playing bongos at the end of the runway. Models in flirty berets and cool sweater dresses. Fun prints, sweet styles and, of course, Betsey's trademark cartwheel.
We're still smiling thinking about it
