Kerri Walsh hits the ball as Brazil's Talita Antunes looks on during a semifinal beach volleyball match Tuesday.
* Beach volleyball might be a niche sport, but Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor - with the help of NBC, which seems to televise every minute of every match - have become mainstream celebrities. Kerri - or "Six Feet of Sunshine," as she's often called - has known Misty for a long time. In fact, when Kerri was a high school sophomore, she asked for Misty's autograph.
Has anyone ever kicked sand in your face?
My brother, when I was little.
Name the worst beach in the world.
Is there such a thing as the worst beach?
What musician really captures the beach vibe?
Jack Johnson. He's a surfer. He's got that vibe down. He's a singer and he was a pro surfer. Go on iTunes. He's everywhere.
What about the Beach Boys?
It doesn't get the crowd fired up. But they'll be relevant forever. Wouldn't it be nice . . .
Are you a great surfer?
I'm deathly afraid of sharks.
What's your preference for sunblock?
I use Banana Boat. As high (SPF) as I can. I'm an Irish girl.
You're a baseball fan. How do you get your fix?
The Giants. Growing up, I wanted to be the first girl in the major leagues. Will Clark was my favorite player.
