Red carpet splendor
Published February 26, 2007 at midnight
Oscar-nominated movies The Queen and The Last King of Scotland elicited a regal showing at this year's Academy Awards, as Hollywood royalty strode the red carpet in resplendent style.
Pale hues and neutral tones were among the night's biggest fashion trends. In shades of pink: Gwyneth Paltrow (Zac Posen), Penelope Cruz (Versace) and Jessica Biel (Oscar de la Renta).
Cate Blanchett (Armani Privé) and Jennifer Lopez (Marchesa) dazzled in gray tones, Helen Mirren (Christian Lacroix) and Rachel Weisz (Vera Wang) shone in champagne, and Jennifer Hudson looked delicious in a dark taupe (Oscar de la Renta). But she should have left the space-agey, gold python metallic shrug back in Chicago.
And while no other stars pulled a Bjork "miss," actresses did take iffy chances. Dresses worn by Cameron Diaz, Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Kidman, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Beyoncé are sure to inspire water cooler discussions today.
