ROMER HAS LOTTO FUN VISITING

Former Gov. Roy Romer stopped by the Senate on Friday to visit his son, Sen. Chris Romer, D-Denver.

Chris Romer joked that his father got word that he amended the state's budget for next year, requiring the Colorado Lottery to increase its promotions spending.

When he was governor, "Papa bear" Romer vetoed legislation establishing the Lotto. It was one of the first vetoes successfully overturned by the Colorado legislature.

"He heard I was trying to sell the lottery," Sen. Romer said. "He came down here to try to undo any damage."

IT'S A REAL HEAD TURNER

The Extra! staff has noticed passers-by admiring the sculpture in front of the Wellington E. Webb building at 201 W. Colfax Ave. But what is it?

Pauline Herrera, communications and marketing director, Denver Office of Cultural Affairs, enlightened us about the Janus heads, as some call it.

Title: East 2 West Source Point

Medium: Carrara marble, cast bronze and gold leaf

Installation: August 2002

Description: The sculpture weighs more than 36 tons and took 14 months to complete. It was made by SGF Sculptura of Carrara, Italy, from artist Larry Kirkland's design. It was commissioned for $450,000.
