Wyoming-Wisconsin WNIT final sold out

The Women's National Invitation Tournament championship game between Wyoming and Wisconsin on Saturday has sold out at the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman said Thursday.

It is Wyoming's first appearance in the title game.

Burman said 15,000 tickets had been sold, including more than 9,000 sold Wednesday night after Wyoming's 89-78 triple- overtime victory against Kansas State.

"The excitement generated by this special group of young women speaks volumes on how UW athletics can pull this state together," Burman said. "This entire tournament experience has been a tremendous show of support by our fans and the entire state of Wyoming."

MINES COACH LEAVES Steve Kimpel has resigned as wrestling coach at Colorado School of Mines after recording a 6-9 mark in dual meets this season.

RAMS SHUT OUT Colorado State's Emily Kirchem dropped her third straight match as the Rams women's tennis team (5-7, 0-3 Mountain West) lost 5-0 against 27th-ranked Brigham Young (12-5, 2-0) in Denver.

In other events:

Robbie Mowers drove in the winning run in the eighth inning to lift the Hawaii Hilo baseball team (7-24) to a 4-3 home win Thursday against Air Force (5-22).

Zach Brockman had two hits Wednesday but the Northern Colorado baseball team (5-17) lost 4-1 against Nebraska (15-9) in Lincoln.

McFARLAND HONORED University of Colorado junior forward Jackie McFarland received honorable mention on The Associated Press' All-America women's basketball team after averaging 17.8 points this season.

In other awards:

University of Colorado at Colorado Springs sophomore Tyler Bishop, a Skyline High School graduate, has been named the men's golfer of the week by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Air Force junior Greg Stine was named the men's gymnast of the week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Colorado Ice kicker Deric Yaussi was named the special-teams player of the week by the United Indoor Football League.

FIS RACES Vail skier Julia Litman finished fourth in the FIS developmental-level women's downhill race in Girdwood, Alaska.

Boulder resident Ann Wood finished third in the junior women's downhill.
