NO. 1 ON THE RISE

Right-handed pitcher Brandon Morrow, Seattle's No. 1 pick in the June draft from the University of California, appears to have beaten out Jon Huber for a spot on the Mariners staff.

HE SAID IT

"Am I always going to be an aggressive hitter? Absolutely. But I can be a more disciplined aggressive hitter. I'm a better hitter than .260."

Jeff Francoeur Braves right fielder, who had more home runs (29) than walks (23) last season, when he hit .260 with a .293 on-base percentage.

NUMBERS GAME

62 at-bats for St. Louis first baseman Albert Pujols before he hit his first home run of spring training Tuesday. He will hit below .290 in spring training for the first time in his career.
