Alice Applebaum

Executive director, Anchor Center for Blind Children

"There's no limit to what can be accomplished if you don't care who gets the credit."

Applebaum can't remember where she read those words 20 years ago but says the advice has affected her career in the nonprofit sector.

"Leaders need to give the credit for successes to others and assume responsibility when something goes wrong," she said. "I've always been able to enjoy going to work knowing I'm part of a supportive, competent and energetic team."

Applebaum says that construction of the center's new building, although stressful, has been a great example of the advice because every member of the team has made a contribution.
