Bodies found at reservoir, golf course

WESTMINSTER - Police are investigating the deaths of two people found floating in water Wednesday, including a man who was discovered in a golf course retaining pond.

The links at the Golf Course at Hyland Hills near West 92nd Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard were closed for about three hours after groundskeepers found the body of a man in his mid-20 to 30s about 11:40 a.m., Westminster police spokesman Trevor Materasso said.

No obvious signs of foul play were found, but for now police are investigating that case as a homicide, Materasso said.

Joann Saitta, a spokeswoman for the Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District, said the incident was the first of its kind at the course, which opened in the 1960s.

"It's shocking, to say the least, so we're very disturbed about it," Saitta said.

About 90 golfers delayed their game until after the Westminster Fire Department dive team retrieved the body from the pond.

The area is one where golfers and groundskeepers pass every day, Saitta said.

In an unrelated case, Lakewood police said a jogger found the body of a woman in her late 50s or early 60s about 11 a.m. in a reservoir near West Florida Avenue and South Kipling Street.

Police spokesman Steve Davis said that initial indications don't point to foul play.
