Boys: Michael Sinnwell, Greeley Central
Greeley Central needed every point at the Valley Invitational swimming meet, and Sinnwell delivered.
Sinnwell, a senior, was the lone two-event winner for the Wildcats in the 15-school meet. He placed first in the 50 freestyle with a state- qualifying time of 24.03 seconds and topped the field in the 100 butterfly, in 57.38, to help the Wildcats to the title at the meet.
Girls: Shala Giardini, Northridge
Giardini has had a hot foot for the Grizzlies, who seem to be scoring at will on the soccer pitch. Northridge has outscored its opposition 30-1.
With nine goals and four assists, Giardini, who scored 23 goals last season, is tied for the total points lead in Class 4A. She tallied four goals against Sterling, added three goals and three assists against Windsor and scored twice as Northridge beat Fort Morgan.
Team: Ellicott baseball
Ellicott was unranked in Class 3A baseball as the season got under way, but it's time to take a look at the Thunderhawks of coach Bill Picchi.
Ellicott beat then- third-ranked Colorado Springs Christian 11-3 last week to improve to 5-0 - and turn a few heads in the process.
Keith Carey, a 6-foot-6 junior, led the way at the plate, batting 3-for-3 and driving in five runs against the Lions. Carey is batting .692 this season. He received ample help from winning pitcher Jeremy McNamera, who also has been one of the toughest outs in the state this season.
McNamera, who is batting a blistering .800 this season (12-15), scattered three hits and struck out 14. The senior went 3-for-4 against Colorado Springs Christian.
Junior Josh Prosser is hitting .529 for the Thunderhawks, who have outscored their five opponents 66-15.
