Polar bear makes debut at Denver Zoo

Published March 27, 2007 at midnight

Frosty, a 22-year-old male polar bear that arrived at the Denver Zoo in December from the Tulsa Zoo, is now on exhibit with his new mate, resident female, Voda.

Frosty is on a breeding loan sanctioned by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan.

Given the winter Denver just had, Frosty was well within his element at the Zoo’s Northern Shores.

After a standard quarantine period, keepers introduced Frosty to his new mate, Voda, and zookeepers say the pair is getting along wonderfully.

Frosty has even mastered the art of catching fish tossed to him by the staff and, while he hasn’t sired any cubs yet, Zoo officials are hopefully that by pairing him with Voda he’ll pass on his valuable genes.
