DU golfer Kempter ties for 2nd; team 6th

Katie Kempter totaled a three-round 211 to pace the University of Denver women's golf team to sixth-place finish Sunday at the Mountain View Collegiate tournament in Catalina, Ariz.

Kempter tied for second place individually with Northwestern's Liliana Alvarez and Oklahoma's Kendall Dye.

Julie Kim totaled 215 to power the University of Colorado into 11th place out of 16 teams. Kim tied for seventh individually with Missouri's Julia Potter and Kansas' Emily Powers.

BEARS FALL T.J. Steele's two-run home run in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted the Arizona baseball team (21-6) to a 7-5 victory against Northern Colorado (7-13) in Tucson.

Colt Sedbrook, a Broomfield High School graduate, had three hits for the Wildcats.

Daniel Schlereth, a Highlands Ranch High School graduate and son of former Broncos lineman Mark Schlereth, pitched two scoreless inning with four strikeouts for Arizona.

Monarch High School graduate John Ray drove in three runs for Northern Colorado.

THUNDERWOLVES PREVAIL Nick Runstadler stroked four hits to power the Colorado State-Pueblo baseball team (19-11, 9-7) to an 11-9 victory against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Mesa State (26-5, 15-1), the Mavericks' first loss this season in a league game.

RAMS STUMBLE Lauren Strasburger won singles and doubles matches, but the Colorado State women's tennis team (5-6, 0-2 Mountain West Conference) lost 5-2 to San Diego State (9-8, 3-0) in Las Vegas.

EAGLES PLAYOFFS The Loveland-based Colorado Eagles will host the opener of their Central Hockey League first-round playoff series against the Youngstown SteelHounds at 7:05 Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center.

The Eagles finished one point behind the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in the race for their third straight Governors' Cup.

RAGE TAKES FINALE Dorian Anneck scored two of five first-period goals as the Rocky Mountain Rage (17-40-7) won its CHL regular-season finale, 5-2 against the New Mexico Scorpions (32-24-8) at the Broomfield Event Center.

BROWN BIG Elton Brown recorded 38 points and 15 assists Saturday night, but the NBA Development League's Colorado 14ers (27-17) lost 116-113 to the host Bakersfield Jam (16-29) in Bakersfield, Calif.
