Former treasurers hearing delayed
Published March 26, 2007 at midnight
GOLDEN Former Jefferson County Treasurer Mark Paschalls arraignment Monday was postponed until April 30 because transcripts from the grand jury that indicted him are not ready.
Paschall, a Republican whose bid for a second term was rejected by voters in last summers GOP primary, is charged with attempted theft and seeking to profit from his tenure in office for allegedly trying to solicit a kickback from a bonus he offered his former top aide.
If convicted, Paschall could face up to three years in prison.
Under Colorado law, sentences for both felony offenses must run concurrently, said a spokeswoman for the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.
Paschall would not comment on the case Monday.
The one-term treasurer and former state legislator is accused of asking Kathy Redmond, a long-time acquaintance he hired when he took office in 2003, for $9,000 of a $25,000 bonus he offered her as he was leaving office late last year.
Redmond, who has refused to take any bonus money from the county,
reported the alleged scheme to authorities.
