Arenas' bets with fans frowned upon

Gilbert Arenas was admonished by the NBA for making $10 bets with fans during the Washington Wizards' loss at Portland on Wednesday.

"We spoke to Gilbert and explained the issue to him," NBA spokesman John Acunto said Sunday. "And he assured us he wouldn't do anything like this again."

Arenas said on his NBA.com blog that he made $10 bets with two fans during the game and had obtained their e-mail addresses so he could pay them off.

WALLACE SUSPENDED Detroit Pistons center Rasheed Wallace received an automatic NBA suspension two days after being called for his 18th technical foul this season.

ALLEN OUT Seattle SuperSonics guard Ray Allen will miss the rest of the regular season after deciding to undergo surgery for bone spurs in his left ankle.

Guo Jingjing won a record fourth 3-meter springboard title at the world championships, giving China its seventh diving gold medal.

NORWEGIAN COMEBACK Petter Northug passed the two leading skiers on the final straight and gave Norway a half-second victory in the World Cup cross-country relay event in Falun, Sweden.

JUMPING CROWN Adam Malysz won the World Cup ski-jumping season title with his third straight large-hill victory after only a single leap at Planica, Slovenia.
