Schroyer hired to coach Wyoming men
Heath Schroyer was hired as the men's basketball coach at the University of Wyoming, reuniting him with the man who gave him his previous head coaching job.
Schroyer comes to Wyoming from Fresno State, where he was associate head coach for two years.
Before that, Schroyer was head coach at Portland State for three years.
He was hired there by athletic director Tom Burman, who holds the same job at Wyoming.
MILES HIRES ASSISTANT Niko Medved, a former assistant coach at the University of Minnesota under Don Monson, will join the staff of Colorado State men's basketball coach Tim Miles.
Medved, a native of St. Paul, Minn., has also served as an assistant at Furman. Miles has two more full-time staff openings to fill.
LÓPEZ EARNS SIXTH Jessica López won her team-leading sixth uneven bars title this season, helping the 16th-ranked University of Denver women's gymnastics team forge a season-high road score in a second-place finish Friday in a triangular meet in Ames, Iowa.
The Pioneers scored a 195.700 and finished behind No. 17 Iowa State (196.750) and ahead of Iowa (194.500).
RAMS SLAM Julia Kloppe smacked a grand slam to lead the CSU softball team (21-14) to a 6-2 victory against Northern Colorado (4-27) in Greeley, where the nightcap was rained out.
AZTECS RISING Brandon Decker drove in four runs to pace the San Diego State baseball team (17-11) to a 21-10 victory against host Air Force (5-20).
PIONEERS FALTER Julia Bauregger was the lone DU winner of a singles match as the 35th-ranked Pioneers women's tennis team (9-6) lost 6-1 to South Florida (9-6) in Tampa, Fla.
BUFFALOES STUMBLE Monica Milewski lost her singles and doubles matches Thursday as the 20th-ranked University of Colorado women's tennis team (10-4, 5-1 Big 12 Conference) lost 7-0 to No. 26 Texas A&M (13-3, 4-0) in College Station, Texas.
WWC'S BEST Northern Colorado wrestlers Kenny Hashimoto (141 pounds), Shawn Vincent (184) and Reece Hopkin (285) were first-team choices for all- Western Wrestling Conference honors.
ABBOTT TAKES STAGE Fairview High School graduate Mara Abbott won the first women's stage of the three-stage Redlands Bicycle Classic in Redlands, Calif., in 4:14:36.
Boulder resident Scott Moninger won the men's stage and took control of the yellow jersey after finishing in 4:05:04.
BECKERMAN JOINS U.S. Colorado Rapids midfielder Kyle Beckerman was added to the U.S. men's national soccer team roster for exhibition games against Ecuador and Guatemala.
FREEMAN TRADED Defender Hunter Freeman was traded by Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids to the New York Red Bulls for a natural third- round pick in the 2008 SuperDraft and fourth-round pick in the 2009 supplemental draft.
EAGLES CRUISE Ryan Tobler recorded a goal and two assists to power the Central Hockey League's Colorado Eagles to an 8-3 win against the New Mexico Scorpions in Rio Rancho, N.M.
WILLIAMSON HONORED Eagles defenseman Brad Williamson was named the Most Outstanding Defenseman for the 2006-07 season by the CHL.
RAGE FIZZLES Former NHL player Cory Stillman collected three goals and three assists to carry the CHL's Arizona Sundogs to an 8-4 win against the Broomfield-based Rocky Mountain Rage in Prescott Valley, Ariz.
