The National Statuary Hall Collection at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., comprises 100 statues, with each state contributing two each from its history.

1 Florence Sabin, born Nov, 9, 1871, in Central City, was a pioneer in science and public health. She was the first woman to graduate from Johns Hopkins Medical School and helped modernize the state's public health system. Erected in 1959.

2 John L. "Jack" Swigert Jr. was one of three astronauts aboard the failed Apollo 13 moon mission, which captivated the world in 1970. The mission was turned into an Academy Award winning film in 1995. Actor Kevin Bacon portrayed Swigert. Erected in 1997.

• Notable statues: Dwight D. Eisenhower, Kansas; Robert E. Lee, Virginia; and Brigham Young, Utah.

Front Range drivers are no longer having to maneuver icy and snowy roads, but they're still dodging potholes.

Two groups with a vested interest say they have a solution to motorists' woes.

• The groups: The Rocky Mountain Cement Council and the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association.

• Solution: Concrete roadways.

• Campaign: Ads, similar to the photos above and below along with slogans, will appear on RTD buses, and a billboard will go up next week at 8500 E. Colfax Ave.
