A woman who had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old and gave birth to the victim's child was sentenced Thursday to six years in prison.
As part of a plea agreement, Tani Leigh Firkins, 33, pleaded guilty to a sexual exploitation charge in Denver District Court. Four counts of sexual assault on a child were dropped.
Firkins is already serving a nine-year prison sentence from Jefferson County for a related sexual exploitation charge.
Firkins first sexually assaulted the teen in August 2000 when the victim helped her move from Arvada to Denver.
The suspect also provided the teen with pornography, marijuana and alcohol.
The assaults continued until 2004 when Firkins moved to Lakewood.
Firkins gave birth to a girl that same year. The father has since taken custody of the child.
"I want you to know you caused none of this," Firkins read from a letter in court directed at the victim. "Nothing can replace what I took from you."
Parents of the victim said they hope Firkins will have some decency and never contact their family again.
"A 26-year-old woman took on a 14-year-old boy who was sexually curious," said the father. "She seduced him, groomed him like a pedophile. She robbed a part of his life."
Firkins will be required to register as a sex offender when she gets out of prison.
