Wilson deal appears to be off
Published March 23, 2007 at midnight
A potential deal to send Al Wilson to the New York Giants is apparently dead.
Trade talks were serious enough that the Denver Broncos linebacker flew to New York for a physical exam. But there are strong indications Wilson's health status scuttled any possible exchange.
Wilson has had a couple of notable problems with his neck the past few seasons, including his getting carted off the field in a game last November against the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson did return the next week, though, and on Thursday night, his agent, Peter Schaffer, called his client's neck ''a non-issue.''
Wilson also missed the season-finale in 2006 with what was described
as back and thumb problems. He's had two surgeries on his right thumb
but apparently had been cleared to participate in all physical activity
relating to that particular injury.
Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist and Schaffer did not respond to
e-mails seeking comment.
