Mother of two had teenage lover before

31-year-old wed 18-year-old in 2000

The Louisville woman who has admitted to having a baby with a 13-year-old apparently has a liking for younger guys.

Court records show that Irene Marie Gomez married an 18-year-old when she was 31.

That marriage - to Benito Chavez-Perez - was just a month old in 2000 when the two got separated, Boulder County Court records show. The marriage was officially dissolved a year ago.

Gomez made headlines this week when police investigating a domestic-abuse charge started doing the math and found out that her boyfriend and the alleged father of two of her five children was very young when she gave birth to the two youngest.

Gomez has said that she didn't know how young the man was when she became involved with him in 2001. Louisville police say that the young man, whose name hasn't been released, was 13 when Gomez became pregnant by him the first time, and 16 the second time.

Gomez, 38, faces possible charges of sexual assault and sexual assault on a child.

She says she was attracted to him because with his goatee, strong arms and shaved head, he looked much older, and because he earned $22 an hour.

Gomez said she asked him a few times how old he was and that he said he was 18 or 19, when he really was 13 or 14.

Relatives of the teen say they warned police about the relationship but that nothing was done.

Gomez is scheduled to appear in court at Boulder County Jail at 2 p.m. today.
