Man indicted for filing 56 false tax returns

A state grand jury has indicted Michael Edward Adams of Denver on 11 felony counts for allegedly submitting 56 false tax returns electronically over 17 months in 2004 and 2005.

Adams obtained electronic transfers from the state with a value of more than $75,000.

He allegedly filed false tax returns by using a dozen different names and social security numbers he had in his possession. He also had tax identification numbers for several different employers.

The charges against Adams include theft, computer crime, forgery, burglary and filing false tax returns.

The case was investigated by the Colorado Department of Revenue's Criminal Investigation Section and prosecuted by the Colorado Attorney General's office.
