Hips and heels moved to the Latin beat at the Denver Turnverein as it hosted the annual Colorado Salsa Open State Championships on Wednesday night. The event is organized and sponsored by Salsa Central Denver and is the official contest to determine the Colorado state salsa champions each year.

Hundreds of amateurs, professionals and spectators came out for an evening of sensual dancing or to cheer on their favorite couple.

Many competed in the Jack and Jill competition in which each dancer is paired up with a partner picked at random. The professionals performed last, many of whom had been working on their routines for up to five months.
