Fort Hays' late push tops Roadrunners
Fort Hays State (15-6) scored four runs in the top of the eighth to erase a one-run deficit, and the Tigers went on to beat Metro State (4-18) 8-7 in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday afternoon at Auraria Field.
UNC, KANSAS SPLIT The University of Northern Colorado baseball team (7-10) got a three-run home run from Kevin Sandberg and a strong pitching performance from Eric Maydew in a 4-2 win against Kansas (14-12) in the second game of a doubleheader in Lawrence, Kan.
Kansas won the opener 5-4.
SHANDERA TIES RECORD Lindsay Shandera broke the Colorado at Colorado Springs (19-8) career RBI record in a doubleheader sweep of Fort Hays State (9-19) at Mountain Lion Field. UCCS won 3-2 and 8-4. Shandera has 153 RBI for her career.
CSU GOLFERS FIFTH The Colorado State women's golf team posted a final-round 306 and finished in fifth place at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii.
Senior Megan Chapman finished in sixth place, with 226, followed by a 12th-place tie for Chelsea Benton (228).
DU TENNIS VICTORY The No. 35 University of Denver women's tennis team (9-5) beat Central Florida (6-6) 4-3 in nonconference action in Denver.
METRO WOMEN SHUT OUT No. 5- ranked West Florida dropped eight games all day and beat Metro State (1-15) 9-0 in a nonconference women's tennis match in San Diego.
CC MEN WIN Senior Ted Nash scored three goals and set up two more to lead the Colorado College men's lacrosse team to a 16-10 victory against the visiting Chico State club team.
DU LACROSSE RALLIES Senior Kristie Leggio tied her own record with five assists and added two goals as the DU women's lacrosse team (8-1) beat Cornell 17-13 in College Park, Md.
CC WOMEN NIPPED The Colorado College women's lacrosse team suffered its second straight one- goal loss, a 10-9 decision to second-ranked Amherst College at CC's Washburn Field.
EAGLES BEAT COTTON KINGS The Colorado Eagles (45-16-1) rallied to beat the Lubbock Cotton Kings (23-31-8) 4-1 in a Central Hockey League game at the Budweiser Events Center.
14ERS THUMPED The Bakersfield Jam (14-29) won an NBA Development League game against the Colorado 14ers (27-16), 129- 118 in Broomfield.
The Adams State men's and women's track teams were picked to win their respective outdoor track titles this spring, in a poll of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference coaches.
The Western State men were picked second; with Colorado School of Mines picked fifth, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs sixth, and Metro State seventh.
