A young girl managed to elude an assailant who tried to abduct her into his van near the Denver Country Club Wednesday.

The attack occurred in the 200 block of South University Boulevard when a man driving a black van tried to pull the victim into his vehicle, Denver police said. The victim, however, was able to break free and tell a passerby.

Officers searched the neighborhood looking for the van but were unable to find it, police said.

The victim told police the attacker appeared to be black and possibly in his 40s. The van he was driving also had dents, police said.
