Koprivetz paces DU to third at tournament

Jeff Koprivetz carded a three- round 205 for a second-place individual finish, helping the University of Denver men's golf team to a third-place team finish Tuesday at the Ron Moore Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz.

Zen Brown of Colorado State totaled a three-round 209 to pull the Rams into a sixth-place finish.

Tyler Goulding of Air Force also totaled 209 to tie Brown for eighth individually. The Falcons finished 15th overall.

Wyoming took 16th.

"I thought we competed well," DU coach Eric Hoos said.

BUFFALOES CLIMB The University of Colorado women's tennis team (10-3, 5-0 Big 12) has moved up to 20th in the Fila/Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings announced.

The ranking matches the highest set by the program, previously achieved in January 1981.

PLAINSMEN FALL The Sterling-based Northeastern Junior College men's basketball team lost 72-62 against Itawamba (Miss.) Community College in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division I championship tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.

KIRCHEM HONORED Emily Kirchem of Colorado State has been named the women's tennis player of the week by the Mountain West Conference.

In other honors:

DU sophomore Steph Coyne was named the women's lacrosse player of the week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Air Force sophomore Abigail Rogers was named the women's gymnast of the week by the MPSF.

Mesa State's Keith Nelson, an Erie High School graduate, was named the baseball pitcher of the week by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Fort Lewis' Cassidy Maine, a Northridge High School graduate, was named the softball pitcher of the week by the RMAC.

Nebraska-Kearney catcher Molly Langerak, an Erie resident, was named the player of the week.

RAPIDS LOSE Jovan Kirovski scored two goals but Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids lost a 4-3 exhibition match against Spanish club Valencia CF in Valencia, Spain.

RAGE STAGGERS Joe Dustin scored two goals to power the Central Hockey League's Oklahoma City Blazers (33-20-8) to a 4-3 victory against the Rocky Mountain Rage at the Broomfield Event Center.

The Rage is 16-38-7.
