DU still ranked 15th despite NCAA snub
The University of Denver hockey team (21-15-4) continued to be ranked 15th in both national polls released Monday despite being rejected by the NCAA Tournament selection panel.
Colorado College (18-17-4) was ranked 20th in the U.S. College Hockey Online poll but wasn't ranked in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
Air Force (19-15-5), which qualified for the NCAAs after winning the Atlantic Hockey Association tournament, received votes in the USCHO.poll.
Falcons sophomore forward Mike Phillipich was named the player of week by the AHA and Air Force teammate Andrew Volkening was named the goalie of the week.
PLAINSMEN OPEN TOURNAMENT The Northeastern Junior College men's basketball team faces Itawamba (Miss.) Community College at 5:30 p.m. MDT today in its first game at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I championships in Hutchinson, Kan.
The Sterling-based Plainsmen (31-1), coached by Eddie Trenkle, bring a 23-game winning streak into their game against Itawamba (26-4).
MILEWSKI HONORED University of Colorado sophomore Monica Milewsi was named the women's tennis player of the week by the Big 12 Conference after winning singles matches that helped the Buffaloes (10-3, 5-0) defeat No. 43 Oklahoma State and No. 12 William & Mary.
PIONEERS IN SECOND Jeff Koprivetz shot a two-round 138 to lead the DU men's golf team into second place after the first day of the Ron Moore Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz.
Zen Brown totaled 139 to help Colorado State into sixth place, 18 shots behind leader Wichita State.
DU ROMPS Kristie Leggio recorded five goals and three assists to help the DU women's lacrosse team (7-1) to a 15-2 road victory against Maryland Baltimore County (3-5).
MULLAN JOINS U.S. TEAM Houston Dynamo midfielder Brian Mullan, a Regis High School graduate, was added to the U.S. national men's soccer team roster for exhibition games against Ecuador and Guatemala.
EAGLES TICKETS The Loveland-based Colorado Eagles will place tickets for the Central Hockey League playoffs on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday at 877-544-TIXX (8499), Comcast Tix.com or ComcastTix outlets, including the Budweiser Events Center.
