Injured toddler airlifted to hospital

Published March 20, 2007 at midnight

A 2-year-old Broomfield girl was airlifted to Children's Hospital after falling out of a fourth- story window onto a cement sidewalk more than 32 feet below Monday afternoon.

The toddler, whose name has not been released, may have been playing on the couch in her apartment and accidentally pushed a window screen out. A metal awning on the first floor may have broken her fall.

Broomfield police responded to Summit Apartments, southwest of FlatIron Crossing mall, around 1:04 p.m.

When they arrived, the child was on the ground crying. She was flown to the hospital with serious injuries, said Broomfield police Sgt. Colleen O'Connell.

The girl's father was home when she fell out of the window. Her mother was a work. None of the family members has been named by police.

"This looks like it was an awful accident," O'Connell said. It is not likely that charges will be filed against anyone, she said.
