BlueMax Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

Heat-resistant, high-definition, energy-efficient bulbs

• What it does: These Energy Star-rated CFL bulbs are designed to provide long-lasting light while cutting energy bills.

• Features: Has a reported life span of up to 10,000 hours, with a temperature 60 percent cooler than regular incandescent bulbs. The BlueMax line ranges in styles and wattage from traditional 14w spiral to 26w flood.

• Verdict: I can't vouch for the life span - I didn't have 10,000 hours to test the bulbs - but they are much cooler to the touch than regular incandescent bulbs. They also put out a distinctive blue hue (hence the name), a feature that takes some getting used to.

• Price: Bulbs run from $9 to $22
