Torres ends seventh in 8K New York run

Former University of Colorado athlete Jorge Torres finished seventh in the USA 8-kilometer running championship Sunday, contested in the cold and rain in New York's Central Park one day after the event was delayed because of a snowstorm.

Anthony Famiglietti finished in 22:35 to win. Boulder resident Justin Young finished 25th in 23:57 and Boulder resident T.J. Doherty finished 34th in 24:27.

HORNED FROGS SWEEP FALCONS Bryan Kervin, Corey Steglich and Andrew Walker each had two hits to spark the Texas Christian baseball team (15-6, 3-0) to a 7-2 victory against Mountain West Conference rival Air Force (5-18, 0-3), sweeping the weekend series in Fort Worth, Texas.

HEARTBREAK FOR BEARS Abraham Garcia's sacrifice fly in the 10th inning helped lift the Texas-Pan American baseball team (11-1) to a 7-6 victory against Northern Colorado (6-9) in Edinburg, Texas.

THUNDERWOLVES ROMP Center fielder Doug Hurst drove in four runs to power the Colorado State-Pueblo baseball team (18-8, 8-4) to a 17-9 home win against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Regis University (11-14, 4-7).

RAMS STUMBLE Colorado State freshman Ashley Muñoz hit her fifth home run this season, but the Rams softball team (20-14) lost 5-1 to Kansas (21-8-1) in the Capital Classic tournament in Sacramento, Calif.

CSU SPLITS Annie Quinn recorded six goals in two matches as the CSU women's water polo team (10-10) split in Claremont, Calif., beating Occidental 10-5 and losing 6-5 to Pomona-Pitzer.

DOWNS EARNS BERTH Fort Carson boxer Christopher Downs won a berth on the U.S. team in the Pan American Games this summer by winning his light-heavyweight qualifying semifinal bout against Julio Castillo of Ecuador in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

EAGLES SLIP Chris Richards scored with 4:39 remaining in the game to lift the Central Hockey League's Youngstown SteelHounds (32-19-10) to a 3-2 home victory against the Loveland-based Colorado Eagles (44-16-1).

RAGE LOSE Travis Clayton recorded three assists to help the CHL's Wichita Thunder (27-27-7) earn a 5-2 home win against the Broomfield-based Rocky Mountain Rage (16-37-7).
