Anschutz on list of potential witnesses

Joe Nacchio’s attorneys said today they may call Qwest founder Philip Anschutz as a witness in Nacchio's federal trial on insider trading charges.

Both the prosecution and defense said they may call former chief legal counsel Drake Tempest.

The prosecution’s witness list includes a number of former executives, directors, analysts and investors. The list includes:

  • Tempest

  • Robin Szeliga, former Qwest chief financial officer

  • Afshin Mohebbi, former Qwest chief operating officer

  • Lee Wolfe, former Qwest investor relations director

  • Tom Stephens, former Qwest audit committee chair

  • James Smith, former head of the Dex publishing business

  • Betsy Barnard, former Qwest executive vice president of consumer/small business

  • Ian Ziskin, former Qwest human resources director

  • Craig Slater, former Qwest director

  • Grant Graham, former Qwest senior vice president of finance

  • Analysts Drake Johnstone and Simon Flannery

    Investors who could be called include representatives of the California Teachers’ State Retirement System.



The defense's potential witness list includes:



  • Anschutz

  • Robert Woodruff, former Qwest chief financial officer

  • Stephen Jacobsen, former Qwest executive vice president

  • James Payne, former head of Qwest’s government business

  • Michael Tarpey, former Qwest communications director

  • Dean Wandry, Qwest senior vice president of government markets

  • Salvatore Tiano, one of Nacchio's stockbrokers
