Selfless athlete is a treasure to behold
What a beautiful article in (the March 12) edition of the Rocky. In today's world of the "ME, ME, ME, GIVE ME MORE" athlete, it was so refreshing to read about Andrea Jaeger. Andrea deserves to be in the Tennis Hall of Fame and the Human Race Hall of Fame.

Simon should be punished for such malicious actions
Former Avs player Chris Simon, who has already been suspended on five occasions, now with forethought, viciously uses his stick to the face of a Rangers player.
Marty McSorley, Todd Bertuzzi and now Simon. It's not only what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, but what happens on the NHL ice, stays on the NHL ice - above the law.
What's the difference between Simon's record and this hit, and that of a contract hitman? The distinction of a gun and a stick may be the question of lethal but not of intent.
In light of Simon's record, he must be suspended for life and taken to court.
If the hit fits - there's no acquit.

Gang violence is real news; most of sports is not
The retirement (or trade) of Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer made your front page along with even larger headlines concerning Denver's stealthy gang reporting. If Denver law enforcement and politicians won't honestly identify gang-related murders, Leon Kelly has. Why not publish the full "Kelly list?"
While you are at it, ask local hospitals to list all "gunshot victims" which were not self-inflicted, domestic-related or hunting accidents. Is getting shot in a "gang situation" not newsworthy unless death occurs? Ask those who have been shot.
If sports-page addicts don't want to be bothered with current events other than rehash of last night's scores and next year's possibilities, move Dave Krieger to another page for a special series while he still is willing to take the field.
The Crossing was addictive reading of history but not a current event. I searched you sports pages to gain insightful perspective on gang abatement. Where do I turn now? Aging quarterbacks who have lost their spiral are plentiful. Inquisitive reporters demonstrating passion about a vital public concern are few. Today's headlines indicate concern about gang violence, yet action speaks louder than ink. Krieger's pen was up against a powerful sword. Who blinked?
