NEW ORLEANS - Marcelus Kemp saved the Wolf Pack from another early exit in the tournament.
With Nevada standout and Ralston Valley High School graduate Nick Fazekas off his game, Kemp capped a 27-point performance with nine points in overtime to lift the Wolf Pack (29-4) to a win against the Blue Jays (22-11).
Nevada, bounced by Montana in the first round last year, got a big game from Kemp to move into a second- round matchup against second-seeded Memphis on Sunday.
Fazekas, the Western Athletic Conference player of the year, had his second-worst shooting performance this season and fouled out with 3:06 left in overtime. Still, the senior finished with 17 points but was 5-for-13 from the floor and wasn't his usual dominant self.
Ramon Sessions scored 16 for the seventh-seeded Wolf Pack.
Nate Funk led Creighton with 23 points, but he began to lose his range late in the game. Nick Porter and Anthony Tolliver each added 15 points for the Blue Jays.
Creighton also struggled from long range, going 3-for-19 on three-pointers.
