Crash victim's friends fill MySpace with memories
Published March 17, 2007 at midnight
Samara Stricklen's friends didn't waste time setting up a MySpace Web page to honor the Bear Creek High School junior killed Tuesday in a head-on crash.
The person who set up the page said it was for Samara, and "for all of us to remember to be careful and love life."
Friends described Stricklen, 17, as "caring, loving and funny."
The site also features a slide show with recent photographs from a candlelight vigil held in her honor, the mangled car she was riding in and recent photos of the young woman, whom friends called "Princess Leia" in middle school. A Mothers Against Drunk Driving video also is posted.
One female friend wrote, "I miss you so much already, you can't even begin to imagine. Everyday i go to math i get extremely sad! I loved hangin out with you! You were an amazing and beautiful woman!"
A 16-year-old student at Green Mountain High School is expected in court Tuesday to face a possible charge of vehicular homicide in connection with the crash.
Investigators are looking at the possibility that the teen may have been drinking, according to Steve Davis, Lakewood police spokesman.
"There could be dozens of charges," Davis said Friday, citing possible additional counts of excessive speed and crossing the yellow line. Davis also said that if it is shown alcohol was involved, investigators will go after the people who provided it.
About 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, the teen suspect was driving a sport utility vehicle east on West Alameda Parkway when she drifted over the center line near West Florida Drive and collided with a westbound Honda sedan driven by Stricklen's friend, according to police.
Seth Mutschler, the 20- year-old driver of the Honda, suffered critical injuries, according to 9News. Four other teens suffered minor injuries.
Three teen passengers - also Green Mountain students - were in the SUV. Colorado's teen driving law states that teenagers who have had their driver's licences for less than six months cannot have other teens in their car, Davis said.
