Westminster police are trying to figure out why a 1997 Honda Civic was traveling the wrong direction on U.S. 36 this morning and slammed into an on-coming car about 4:30 a.m.
Investigator Trevor Materasso said a 27-year-old man riding in the Honda was killed in the crash. His name is being withheld while his family is notified.
The woman driving the Honda, Rachel Lucille Wilson, 21, was hospitalized with severe injuries.
The driver she crashed into, Ronald F. Hamilton, 49, suffered minor injuries. He was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler and wearing a seatbelt.
Neither of the occupants in the Honda was wearing a seat belt.
The Westminster Police Department Critical Accident Investigation Team was called to investigate and reconstruct the accident.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed until just after 8:00 a.m.
