Man arrested in Internet sex sting

Published March 15, 2007 at midnight

Douglas County sheriff’s officers arrested a 25-year-old Colorado Springs man when he allegedly came to Parker believing he was going to meet an underage girl he met on the Internet.

Carmen Mascitelli III was booked into the Douglas County Detention Facility for investigation of Internet luring of a child, enticement of a child, and criminal attempted sex assault on a child.

Deputy Cocha Heyden reports Mascitelli, who is deaf, started an on-line conversation March 2 with what he believed to be an underage girl who actually was a police investigator. He began his conversation by offering to teach her sign language.

The conversation quickly turned to Mascitelli asking for the girl to take and send naked pictures of herself. He also asked if she would be willing to have sex with him.

On March 9, he drove from Colorado Springs to Parker to meet the underage female but instead was arrested by Douglas County deputies.

"I am very impressed by these hard working investigators, who concentrate their efforts on catching the criminals who prey on the children of our community. This arrest is just another example of their persistence paying off," said Sheriff David Weaver.
