Hick weathers storm of criticism

Published March 15, 2007 at midnight

The 1982 blizzard cost a former Denver mayor his job, but the snowstorms that paralyzed the city in December left Mayor John Hickenlooper virtually unscathed.

Denver residents had buried city officials with complaints about slow snow removal when a series of storms slammed the city.

But a poll conducted by the Kenney Group, a political consulting firm, found that 51 percent of city voters think Denver provides very good or fairly good snow removal services.

The poll of 500 registered voters in Denver was conducted in early February. It has a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.

The poll also showed that 66 percent of city voters rated Denver's snow removal efforts as excellent, good or fair. About one-third, or 34 percent, labeled the city's performance as poor.

When asked about the May election, 49 percent of respondents said they would definitely vote for Hickenlooper, whose approval rating is 84 percent.
