GRAND JUNCTION - Bail was set at $100,000 Wednesday for a Clifton grandmother accused of sexual exploitation, assault and procurement of at least two of her granddaughters after a Canadian man was arrested for alleged Internet trafficking of child pornography.
Debra Slaughenhaupt, 49, admitted to investigators she had her grandchildren, ages 9 and 3, touch her breasts and other private parts while a bedroom Web cam sent the images to "good guy matt," identified as Matt Hughes, 26, the arrest affidavit said.
Slaughenhaupt denied knowing that Hughes had captured and distributed images of the incidents, which occurred between April 29 and Dec. 1, 2006, the affidavit said.
Hughes was arrested in December by authorities in Toronto. Police there contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to help track down about 4,500 American contacts found on Hughes' computer, the affidavit said.
Investigators in Mesa County arrested Slaughenhaupt at her Clifton apartment Tuesday.
Slaughenhaupt is set to appear in Mesa County District Court on March 22. Sheriff's investigators recommended two counts each of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, sexual assault on a child, sexual assault on a child as a pattern of abuse, sexual exploitation of a child and procurement of a child for sexual exploitation.
