Published March 15, 2007 at midnight
Colorado has dropped from 10th place to 11th place among 45 states and the District of Columbia last year for reporting -anti-Semitic incidents, according to an audit conducted by the Anti-Defamation League.
In 2006, the Rocky Mountain region reported 23 anti-Semitic incidents (22 in Colorado and 1 in Wyoming) down from 37 reported in Colorado in 2005. None were reported in Wyoming in 2005.
"We're encouraged (that) there appears to be an overall reduction in these incidents in the last few years in Colorado," said Bruce DeBoskey, regional director of the ADL.
"We hope that it reflects that Colorado is becoming more welcoming, more inclusive and more respectful of diversity."
Nationally, a total of 1,554 -anti- Semitic incidents were reported in the United States, representing a decline of 12 percent from the 1,757 reported in 2005.
Out of the 23 incidents in Colorado and Wyoming in 2006, 12 were acts of harassment, a decline from 27 incidents in 2005, and 11 were acts of vandalism, an increase of one incident from 2005.
