WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR LUNCH?

"The barbecued chicken dinner - ½ barbecued chicken, cole slaw and cornbread - at Dave's Famous BBQ in Stapleton. I had a craving."

Singer Lannie Garrett, Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret, 16th and Arapahoe streets, Denver

Amazing grain

If we have to read one more package label looking for nutritional stuff, our eyes will glaze over. But you can hardly miss the the new Whole Grain Stamp, from the Whole Grains Council. The black and gold stamp identifies products that have at least a half-serving (8g) or more of whole grains per serving. So far, 1,000 products are wearing the label, 76 percent of them with a full serving or more of whole grains. In a three-way tie, Annie's Whole Wheat Shells and Cheddar, Thomas' Whole Wheat Mini Square Bagelbread, and Multigrain Lightly Salted Tortilla Chips from Snyder's of Hanover, all were certified on the same day to become the 1,000th product.

There's something fishy here

Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fatty fish, are the latest good- for-you nutrient to be added to everything. The omega-3's in these products from orange juice to ice cream to energy bars can be the fishy version or a plant-based weaker version - neither of which has a fishy taste. Poor oat bran, poor calcium - they're no longer the nutrients du jour.

Ted the Mule Syrah-Grenache 2005,

$9

Yeah, it's a cute critter, but this is no Aussie giant-factory red. From the Southern Rhône where these grapes are traditional, Ted combines New World fruitiness with French elegance and balance. At a price worth kicking your heels up.
