An 18-year-old skier was killed Tuesday morning after hitting a tree at the Breckenridge Ski Resort.

Witnesses told authorities that Logan Bastedo, of Charlotte, N.C., appeared to be skiing very fast about 10 a.m. when he slammed into a tree while on an intermediate trail called the Dukes Run, according to the Summit County coroner. Bastedo was not wearing a helmet.
