LAKEWOOD A 17-year-old girl died and several teens were injured last night in a head-on car crash.
A 16-year-old girl driving an SUV with three passengers collided about 8:30 p.m. with a sedan near West Alameda Parkway and West Utah Avenue, said Steve Davis, spokesman for Lakewood police. A man was driving the sedan with a female passenger, who later died at a hospital.
Names of those involved in the accident were not immediately released.
Investigators have not yet determined if alcohol or drugs were involved.
The driver of the SUV could face a charge of vehicular homicide and other charges depending on the investigation.
Most of the people involved in the accident were juveniles and attend either Bear Creek High School or Green Mountain High School, Davis said.
The victim was a junior at Bear Creek who took many advanced placement classes, said school Principal Phyllis Emrich. Counselors are talking with students at the school today.
"She was a model student," Emrich said. "She was very well-liked."
