Bail lowered for teen accused of helping hide slain woman

BOULDER - A District Court judge on Tuesday lowered bail for the teen who allegedly helped a suspect in the killing of a Lafayette mother get rid of the body.
Keith Pope, the lawyer for Jared Guy, told the judge that his 18-year-old client has a developmental problem that likely would help explain his behavior, and therefore, "Mr. Guy's legal situation looks like it is going to get better."
But Judge Lael Montgomery noted the seriousness of the crime, in agreeing with Deputy District Attorney Karen Peters that the original $500,000 bail only should be lowered to $50,000 with strict supervision requirements.
Three teens were arrested Feb. 28 after Lafayette police found the body of Linda Damm, 52, in the trunk of a Subaru parked in the garage of her home at 705 W. Brome Place in the Beacon Hill subdivision.
Guy was arrested three days later at a dance at Standley Lake High School.
Arrest reports give the following account:
Bryan Grove, the 17-year-old boyfriend of Damm's daughter, Tess, 15, told police that he choked Linda Damm and then stabbed her in the neck.
He then recruited Jared Smith to help move the body from the house. Later, he recruited Guy to help get rid of the body.
Pope said Guy, who was adopted from a Calcutta, India, orphanage as a baby, didn't have proper pre- and postnatal care, so the frontal lobe of his brain didn't develop properly. "He also has attention deficit disorder," the lawyer said.
Tess Damm is in a juvenile facility. The others are in Boulder County Jail.
