HOME ON HIGH
9,200' Elevation of Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald's home in Jefferson County on the Gilpin County line.
"At 9,200 feet, I've seen it rain and fire in the sky," she said, during debate on making Rocky Mountain High an official state song.
BUT SERIOUSLY, NOW
Many lawmakers were stunned at how many TV reporters showed up to cover the resolution on the late John Denver's song.
"Members of the TV press, I invite you to stick around after the resolution," said Senate Minority Leader Ken Gordon, D-Denver. "We're going to be debating bills on education, transportation and the environment."
HERE, KITTY KITTY
"Sen. Schultheis, may your cat have many kittens."
Sen. Fitz-Gerald, after Sen. Dave Schultheis, R-Colorado Springs, decided to vote "no" on an income-tax checkoff to help spay and neuter pets.
VACCINE LAW LOOMS
New Mexico is on the verge of becoming the latest state to require sixth-grade girls to be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted virus that can cause cervical cancer. The state House approved the bill Sunday, and Gov. Bill Richardson will sign it once he receives the legislation, a spokesman said. A similar bill is pending in the Colorado legislature.
