Judge lowers bond for teen connected to slaying
Published March 13, 2007 at midnight
BOULDER A District Court judge today lowered the bond for the teen who allegedly helped a murder suspect bury the body of a Lafayette mom.
But Keith Pope, lawyer for Jared Guy, 18, said conditions set on the $50,000 bond cant be met and will keep his client in the Boulder County Jail.
"Its no bond in my opinion," Pope said afterward, referring to Judge Lael Montgomery lowering the bond from $500,000 to $50,000, but imposing strict supervision requirements.
Guy, who would live with his mother in Westminster if he could make bond, cant come to Boulder everyday to give urine samples or assure supervisors hes meeting the conditions of supervision, Pope said.
Pope told the judge at the bond hearing that his client has a developmental problem that likely would help explain why he played a role in the crime, and therefore, "Mr. Guys legal situation looks like it is going to get better."
Pope said the $15,000 still would be about six times higher than the typical bond for a fourth-degree felony, for which Guy is charged.
But Montgomery noted the seriousness of the crime, in agreeing with Deputy District Attorney Karen Peters that the bond should be $50,000.
Three teens were arrested Feb. 28 after Lafayette police found the body of Linda Damm, 52, in the trunk of the Subaru parked in the garage of her home at 705 W. Brome Place in the Beacon Hill subdivision.
Guy was arrested three days later as he was attending a dance at Standley Lake High School.
Bryan Grove, 17, boyfriend of Damms daughter, Tess, 15, told police that he choked Linda Damm and then stabbed her in the neck, according to arrest reports.
