Driver faces trial in two deaths

Published March 13, 2007 at midnight

A Denver woman who is accused of running over and killing two teens last November, waived her preliminary hearing today.

Sandra Maul, 64, will be arraigned on April 19. She remains free on a personal recognizance bond.

"We want to move through this," said her son, Robert Maul, 32, after the brief hearing. "We want to bring some closure to the families, so they can begin their healing."

Sandra Maul is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide in the deaths of Nhan Nguyen and Jesse Aguirre, both 14.

They were walking home from Abraham Lincoln High School on Nov. 17, along South Federal Boulevard, near West Colorado Avenue, when Sandra Maul ran into them from behind.

Toxicology results showed that she had three different prescription drugs in her system at the time.
