Motion seeks to halt ethics law

Published March 12, 2007 at midnight

Opponents of an ethics measure that voters approved last fall plan to file a motion for an injunction today in Denver District Court.

The injunction asks the court to halt implementation of Amendment 41 until its constitutionality is determined.

The motion will be filed by former Supreme Court Justice Jean Dubrosfky and attorney Doug Friednash. They represent nine plaintiffs, including Developmental Pathways, the Adams County Economic Development Inc. and Rep. Anne McGihon, D-Denver.

The ethics measure, in part, bans gifts of $50 or more to government officials and their families. Critics say it is overbroad and unconstitutional.
