DU's Reisshauer skis to second in 20K
University of Denver skier Rene Reisshauer finished second and teammate John Stene was sixth in the men's 20-kilometer classical race at the NCAA Skiing Championships, with the Pioneers still in second place after the third day of competition in Jackson, N.H.
With men's and women's slalom events remaining today, DU stands 38 points behind leader Dartmouth.
The University of Colorado, the defending champion, has moved into third place.
Reisshauer, who won his third individual national championship during the freestyle Wednesday, finished 2.1 seconds behind Snorri Einarsson of Utah.
RAMS ON TRACK Colorado State senior Janay DeLoach on Friday became the first jumper in school history to earn All- America honors, finishing fifth at the NCAA Division I indoor track championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
DeLoach leapt 20 feet, 9.25 inches, the second-best jump of her career. The Rams have had at least one indoor All- American every year since 2000 and in 14 of the past 15 seasons.
GRIZZLIES HONORED Adams State's TiaNiecia Mosley, a Harrison High School graduate, was named the NCAA Division II women's field athlete of the year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Grizzlies teammate Nick Lara, an Alamosa High School graduate, was named the men's track athlete of the year.
ON THE MAT Adams State College wrestlers Jared Deaguero, Arsenia Barksdale, Evan Copeland, James Reynolds and Casey Woodall won their first-round matches Friday in the NCAA Division II Championships in Kearney, Neb., allowing the Grizzlies to slip into eighth place overall.
FALCONS POUNDED John Kopilchack drove in three runs to lead the Wright State baseball team (3-4) to a 13-3 victory Friday against Air Force (5-12) at the Academy's Falcon Field.
HAM GEM Braden Ham pitched a six-hit complete game to carry the Metro State baseball team (4-8) to a 2-1 win Friday against New Mexico Highlands (4-11).
STING LIKE A BEE Ali Flury recorded four goals and two assists to spark the 16th-ranked DU women's lacrosse team (4-1) to a 14-5 victory Friday against No. 18 Hofstra (1-2) in Hempstead, N.Y.
BUCKS AMUCK Chris Korchin- ski's second-period goal lifted the Central Hockey League's Laredo (Texas) Bucks (39-13- 5) to a 1-0 home victory Friday against the Loveland-based Colorado Eagles (40-15-1).
RAGE UPSTAGED Dave Rattray scored two goals to pace the CHL's Tulsa Oilers (23-25-7) to a 5-3 home victory Friday against the Broomfield-based Rocky Mountain Rage (15-35- 5).
14ERS PEAK Mike Harris scored 27 points to lead the NBA Development League's Colorado 14ers (25-14) to a 113-103 victory Friday against the Los Angeles D-Fenders (19-19) at the Broomfield Event Center.
